Thomas McAlinden

With more than 31 years of continuous sobriety, Thomas McAlinden is a trusted leader in the addiction recovery field and the Founder of Sober Companion Florida, established in 2014. His expertise, lived experience, and compassionate approach have made him a respected resource for families and individuals seeking personalized recovery support across New York and throughout the United States.

Thomas’s journey into recovery is deeply personal. He lost his older brother John to addiction in 1985—a loss that shaped his understanding of the devastating impact substance use disorders can have on families. After entering treatment in 1990 and achieving lasting sobriety in 1994, Thomas dedicated his life to helping others. In 2019, he supported his twin brother Tim in getting sober. Tim remained in recovery until he passed away in 2020 from a 9/11-related cancer after serving as a first responder at the World Trade Center. These profound experiences strengthened Thomas’s commitment to guiding others toward long-term recovery.

Since 2010, Thomas has worked professionally as a recovery coach, sober companion, and intervention specialist. His extensive background includes managing sober living homes in Brooklyn, NY; providing confidential sober transport to treatment centers and appointments; and facilitating interventions for families across the country. His approach combines accountability, structure, and emotional support—helping clients navigate detox, early recovery, and long-term sobriety.

Through decades of work, Thomas has built a reliable network of rehabs, clinicians, therapists, interventionists, and addiction recovery professionals, allowing him to match clients with the most appropriate resources for their needs. Thomas and his team are available 24/7, offering crisis intervention, ongoing recovery coaching, and support for individuals and families facing substance use disorder or other addictive behaviors.

Sober Companion Florida serves clients of all ages—from teenagers to older adults—and offers specialized support for executives, young professionals, families, actors, musicians, and athletes. Every member of Thomas’s team is in recovery, providing clients with authentic understanding and real-world guidance. Thomas also works with a dedicated team of highly trained female sober companions to support women in recovery safely and professionally.
